What Is a Domain Name

A Domain Name is the unique name of your website (www.yourbussinessname.com).

Before your website can be built, you’ll need to purchase a domain name from an online name registrar. This is usually a big-name company like Namecheap or Siteground.

By purchasing a domain name from a domain registry you are renting the name for a selected time period! Most domain name registry sites allow you to purchase your domain for multiple years. But at the minimum, you’re required to renew your domain name every year.

A domain name can cost you anywhere from $5 – $17 Per yr (in most cases). Your domain name is usually centered around the name of your business or the industry you’re in.

What Is Hosting

Hosting (also called web hosting) is the service that put’s your domain name live across the internet. Web hosting companies are usually also run by big-name companies. No one can see your website if you don’t have a hosting company put your website across the internet.

Just like any other service, of course, there are good and bad hosting companies out there.

Here are my recommendations for hosting and domain name companies. They are priced great and offer quality services.

Namecheap.com, you can purchase your domain name starting at around $8-$12

Siteground.com/go/saleprice Hosting at Siteground usually costs you anywhere from $5-$15 a month billed yearly. Siteground has secure services as well as a brilliant support team if ever you needed to reach out to them.

Steps to setup hosting

  1. Go to Siteground.com
  2. Choose “managed WordPress hosting.”
  3.  Choose from the 3 monthly payment options (yearly). I suggest the (start-up) $6.98 per month. It’s billed annually, and you can always upgrade.
  4. Enter your domain, select payment period – buy you’re done! ( adding extra services is up to you, I wouldn’t recommend it )

When you’re finished registering both accounts, make sure to remember your login info for both accounts. You’ll need to give it to your web designer.
